Drain repair Devon – a week of jobs

It was a busy first week of trading, and we were lucky enough to help some East Devon clients across Ottery St Mary, West Hill, Wiggaton, and Sidmouth. Apart from the usual drain blockages and clearances we came across a few interesting findings and solutions. No two days are the same as a drain engineer!

On one of the first jobs we retrieved a set of rods which had become stuck in the pipe system. It is quite common for domestic rods to come off in the drains – often this is due to being turned anti-clockwise or using faulty, old, or deteriorating rods. Retrieval of old rods can be quite a difficult process, and even the professionals can struggle. At Mallett Drainage we are equipped with the right equipment to help with this process, and we are usually able to retrieve them within the first hour.

Working on a larger commercial site, we arrived to a kitchen sink leading to an overflowing gully and a six month history of bad smells. In this case, the run of the drains was unknown. After some time investigating, three hidden inspection chambers were found. One needed to be excavated for access and the other two were heavily blocked with historical waste due to their previous unknown locations. This was sorted using a process of extensive high-pressure jetting and cleaning of all lines.

Another property comprised of a series of barn conversions. This was on a sewage treatment plant. However, this was diverted to mains drainage seven years ago. For this time the kitchen waste had been back feeding into the redundant sewage treatment plant. We found that the kitchen waste run did lead to the main drainage but thanks to the CCTV drain investigation and tracing we located it had been capped off in a nearby inspection chamber. We removed the concrete cap and carried out further jetting to finally solve the issue that had been causing the owner seven years of hassle.
